*What is a loopwheel knitting machine?
This old-fashioned knitting machine was introduced from Europe between the end of the Meiji period and the beginning of the Taisho period. Because it requires the skilled technique and experience of a craftsman to knit the fabric, it is a rare machine that can only knit one meter per hour. The machine knits slowly without applying any extra tension to the yarn, and the knitted fabric is not wound up but instead stored under the machine, resulting in a fluffy, soft, and thick fleece. It also produces a light, warm fleece. To avoid applying extra tension during processing, a small dyeing and weaving machine is used, allowing the fabric to maintain its shape for a long time.
